Andy Yan sets pole position for TCR Asia Challenge’s Race 1
Andy Yan Cheuk Wai will start Race 1 of the TCR Asia Challenge at Macau from the pole position at the wheel of his Honda Civic Type R run by Team TRC; Lo Sze Ho’s Z-Challenger Racing Hyundai i30 N will stand alongside him on the front row, while the Audi RS 3 LMS cars of CHAMP Motorsport’s Felipe De Souza and Tianshi Racing Team’s Huang Ruo Han will fill the second line.
Yan topped Q1, posting the fastest lap of 2:33.217 that no one was able to beat. Lo Sze Ho, who had been fastest in both Thursday’s Free Practice sessions was the only driver who seemed in the position to try and improve on Yan’s time; eventually he was placed second, with a lap of 2:33.451, while De Souza abandoned his first run and then posted the third fastest lap of 2:33.857.
Samuel Hsieh, one those who were expected to fight for the pole in his Teamwork Motorsport Lynk & Co 03 qualified in a disappointing 22nd position, as his car suffered from fuel pressure problems.
The session was red-flagged with four minutes left, when Mike Ng Chi Leung’s QMA Motorsports Volkswagen Golf GTI crashed at Fishersmen’s bend, and did not resume.
The other drivers who advanced to Q2 were Huang Ruo Han, Billy Lo Kai Fung, Hu Heng, Cheong Chi On, Ryan Wong Chun Hao, Eurico De Jesus, Mok Tsz Wang, Chan Weng Tong and Leong Keng Hei.
However, Q2 was eventually cancelled due to the lengthy operations for repairing the barriers at Fishersmen’s bend.
Race 1 is scheduled to get underway tomorrow at 12:55 local time (05:55 CET).
