TCR European champion and WTCR podium finisher Mikel Azcona was the guest star in the third event of the Campeonato de España Resistencia that took place at Alcañiz’s Motorland Aragón. And Azcona did not disappoint the expectations, as he drove the Tecnicars Racing Team CUPRA he shared with Evgeny Leonov to a dominant victory in the first 50-minute race. They won with a margin of 24 seconds from the PCR Sport’s car of Harriet Arruabarrena and Antonio Aristi who beat in the final sprint for the second position Roberto Ferri and Alberto Vescovi in the Baporo Motorsport CUPRA by only 35 thousandths of a second.
However, the real star of the weekend was Amalia Vinyes who won the second race and jumped on top of the standings. That was the second victory of the season so far for the Andorran lady and her Baporo Motorsport CUPRA, as she had already won the very first round of the series at Navarra beating Alba Cano for a female 1-2 that is now repeated in the standings, as Cano is currently placed second with a gap of 32 points.
Vinyes won the second race at Alcañiz after a close battle with Guillermo Aso and the Martínez brothers, Raúl and Rubén, who finished second and third with gaps of 9 and 14 seconds respectively.
The next round of the season will be at Valencia on June 22/23.
