The 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge kicks off Friday with the traditional 4-hour race at Daytona International Speedway that is the prelude to the famous Rolex 24 Hours.
In the third season since it was included in the series, the TCR class features a record field of 18 cars that will race together with the GTs competing for the GTS class.
Just like in 2019, four car manufacturers will be represented: Alfa Romeo, Audi, Honda and Hyundai.
The Korean brand defends its last year’s title with five Veloster N cars; three are fielded by the reigning champion Bryan Herta Autosport and two by Forty7 Motorsports.
There will be six Audi RS 3 LMS cars run by four teams: 2019 title contender Roadshagger Racing (1), Fast MD Racing (2), JDC-Miller Motorsports (2) and Team Prémat of former single-seater and sportscar French star Alexandre Prémat (1).
The Honda patrol is formed by six Civic Type R cars; three are run by LA Honda World Racing, including the #37 that won last year’s race at Daytona, two by Atlanta Speedwerks and one by HART.
A single Romeo Ferraris-built Alfa Romeo Giulietta completes the field racing under the banner of KMW Motorsports and TMR Engineering.
Competitors will take part in a 15-minute Qualifying session, Thursday at 11:50 local time (16:50 GMT/17:50 CET), while the 4-hour race will start Friday at 13:10 local time (18:10 GMT/19:10 CET).
