Victories in Jarama for Mike Halder and Alba Cano

Victories in Jarama for Mike Halder and Alba Cano

03 July 2021

Mike Halder and Alba Cano took victories in the second event of the TCR Spain at Jarama. Halder and his Honda Civic Type R won the first and third races, while Cano drove her CUPRA Leon Competición to victory in Race 2.
Fernando Navarrete had won the pole in Qualifying, but Mike Halder and Isidro Callejas started better and led the field, with Michelle Halder moving up into fourth from P6 on the grid. However, in lap 2, Alejandro Cutillas and Cano overtook the German girl. Navarrete passed Callejas for second and the latter was joined by Cutillas and Cano in a close fight for the third position.
At front, Mike Halder built a comfortable margin over Navarrete, while the trio of Callejas, Cutillas and Cano delivered a thrilling battle. Towards the end of the race, Callejas benefited from the fight behind him to pull away, while Cano eventually passed Cutillas for P4 on the penultimate lap.
Michelle Halder had the pole on the reversed grid for Race 2, but she was sidelined by an electrical issue that prevented her from starting in Race 3 as well.
Cano led the field from the start and never looked back, heading for her maiden win in the series. She was followed by Mike Halder, but in lap 3, the German driver lost second place to Callejas who began to close in on Cano. At the back, Navarrete was recovering after stalling at the start and passed Cutillas for P4 in lap 6. In the second part of the race, Cano finally left Callejas behind and took the chequered flag with a 2-second margin.
Race 3 was quite uneventful; the only thrill was provided by Navarrete and Cano who both stalled at the start from P1 and P5. Mike Halder and Callejas pulled away, while Cutillas followed in third position. It took only two laps to Cano for elbowing her way through the cars of the CET class and move up into P5.
Eventually, Halder built a small margin over Callejas and took his second win of the day, while Cutillas kept Navarrete at bay to finish third.
The two series will resume at MotorLand Aragón on July 31/August 1.
