More than 30 cars for the season opener at Monza

21 April 2022

The 2022 TCR Italy championship begins in style this weekend at Monza with a grid of thirty-two cars that represent five brands with eight different models.

The list of the title contenders includes drivers with vast international experience such as Niels Langeveld and Kevin Ceccon, both at the wheel of Hyundai Elantra cars, and the three-time Italian champion Salvatore Tavano who leads the quartet of CUPRA Leon Competición cars run by the Scuderia del Girasole.

The younger generation is represented by the MM Motorsport pair of Marco Iannotta and Carlo Tamburini, the ALM Motorsport’s Estonian duo of Mattias Vahtel and Ruben Volt, all in Honda Civic Type R cars, and by Michele Imberti in a CRM Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N.

There is a nice group of foreign drivers, with Jack Young making a one-off appearance in a MM Motorsport Honda, the three entries from RC2 Junior Team with Rubén Fernández in a second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS, Felipe Fernández and Sergio López, both in CUPRA Leon Competición cars, the Team Clairet’s French duo of Gilles Colombani and Stéphane Ventaja.

Jonathan Giacon drives the freshly homologated Tecnodom Sport FIAT Tipo that is eligible to score points for the first time.

The field is completed by five cars that compete for the DSG Trophy.
