Going on 30 years as business partners, Louis Milone and Kevin Wheeler are now ready to competing under their own banner of KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering, fielding two Alfa Romeo Giulietta cars in the TCR class of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
“This is our first year taking control of everything and we picked the oddest car to put in the series, the Alfa Romeo,” explained Milone.
Following a long history with Audi, Milone described how he landed the Alfa Romeo cars for the team’s maiden season. “There were two of them here in America already. I knew the guy who had them. They were sitting around doing nothing because he just couldn’t get anybody to rent them. I had a pack of drivers ready to go. We brought the cars to the shop, prepped them, took them to a couple of test days and compared the data to the Audi cars. It looked good. Everything looked like they would be very competitive, so we shook hands on a deal and put a package together.”
Both cars were onsite at Daytona International Speedway for the Roar Before the Rolex 24 test days, with Roy Block and Tim Lewis Jr. making laps. The driver lineup for the second car will be revealed in the coming days.
“The level of support that we’ve gotten from Romeo Ferraris engineering company has been overwhelming and I feel like we’re the full factory team,” said Milone. “They sent people and they’ve been great with getting us all the parts we need to make this thing happen. So far, it’s been a really good decision for us.”
With so many new beginnings – team, car, drivers – under one tent, Milone has learned to adjust his expectations and goals for the upcoming season. “I would like to be competitive in every race and be a contender. But it would be a great season if we finish every race, complete a lot of laps and finish somewhere in the championship that’s respectful. The ultimate goal is to represent the brand well and look professional.”
