Adria hosts the penultimate event of the WTCR

04 November 2021

The penultimate event of the WTCR is staged in the upcoming weekend at Adria International Raceway. This is the first international event for touring cars hosted by the Italian circuit after the 2017 TCR European Cup that was won by Aurélien Comte at the wheel of a Peugeot 308.
There will be two Italians on the WTCR grid, both at the wheel of Hyundai Elantra N cars: BRC Squadra Corse's Gabriele Tarquini and guest driver Nicola Baldan who will race again for Target Competition after making a previous appearance earlier in the season at the Hungaroring.
Tarquini took part in the 2017 Eurocup in a Hyundai i30 N that was still running with a temporary homologation form and therefore was not eligible to score points. Tarquini set the pole position and won the second race.
The battle for the 2021 WTCR title is still wide open. The reigning champion Yann Ehrlacher (Cyan Racing, Lynk & Co 03) leads the standings on 160 points, 14 clear of Jean-Karl Vernay (Team Engstler, Hyundai Elantra N), while Esteban Guerrieri (Münnich Motorsport, Honda Civic Type R) and Frédéric Vervisch (Comtoyou Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS) are placed third and fourth with gaps of 22 and 29 points respectively.
The two races will start Sunday at 10:15 and 12:15 local times (CET) over distances of 14 and 17 laps respectively.
