The figures of TCR’s growth after three seasons

01 January 2018

The final event of the TCR China’s inaugural season that took place at Guangdong International Circuit last Friday and Saturday completed the third year of TCR competition.
The figures show the hectic growth of TCR on a global level since its inception in 2015.

The number of races for TCR cars raised from 39 in 2015, to 141 in 2016 and eventually to 216 in 2017, encompassing 18 series or championships.

Even more impressive was the number of drivers who took part in at least one race that raised from 289 in 2016 to 539 in 2017. Among them, Giacomo Altoè raced in the International Series, the Europe Trophy, the Benelux, Italian and Middle East series, totalling 36 race starts.

136 drivers claimed at least one race win. The list is led by TCR Germany and Middle East champion Josh Files with 11 victories, ahead of TCR China champion Andy Yan (8) and a trio with 7 wins: TCR Scandinavia champion Robert Dahlgren, TCR Italy champion Nicola Baldan and TCR Portugal champion Francisco Mora.

Looking at the cars: 11 different brands of manufacturers were represented during the 2017 season and 9 of them won races. The most winning car was the SEAT León with 59 victories, followed by the Honda Civic (52) and the Volkswagen Golf (47).
