Michael Choi leads TCR Asia after Singapore

22 September 2015

Prince Racing’s Michael Choi had a perfect weekend at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, where he won both races in the second event of the TCR Asia Series.
At the wheel of his JAS-built Honda Civic TCR, Choi survived the scrimmage at the start of Saturday’s night race that involved some of his Asian competitors and took his first victory from the SEAT León cars of Frank Yu (Craft-Bamboo) and Samson Chan (Roadstar Racing).
Sunday, Choi’s teammate Kenneth Lau led the second race until lap 7, when he spun and dropped to third, behind Choi and Roadstar Racing’s George Chou. Choi claimed his second victory of the weekend, followed by Chou and Lau. However, the latter received a 10 second time penalty for a jump start that dropped him to fifth and promoted Yu to third.

These results propelled Choi on top of the standings with 88 points, eleven ahead of Asia Racing Team’s Philippe Descombes who did not take part in the Singapore event.

“It has been a very good weekend for me and it’s nice to be the new championship leader. It was a very interesting experience to race with the drivers of the TCR International Series. Their level is very high and I can learn a lot from them,”said Choi.
